11 Sep Where Is Your Mind?
As I write today, we are preparing to take our summer break; Jayne is running around on errands crossing things off her to do list. While on the way to the dentist she shared how her mind was on the holiday destination and the beach etc. but as her mind wandered she passed the exit she was supposed to take and ended up in a residential cul-de-sac! This happens to the best of us, but there are times when it is so much more than just taking a wrong turn while driving. For example, the mind can be filled with negative thoughts and fear. Thoughts of fear, worry and limiting beliefs disempower you and rob you of the victorious life in Christ Jesus.
The real battle ground of your life is the mind. The mind is a powerful and beautiful place or it can become a dark place filled with negative thoughts and limiting beliefs about yourself, God and the world. Ask yourself today: ‘Where is your mind?’ Is it filled with what God says about you? Are your thoughts focused on who you are in Christ Jesus – an overcomer and victorious?
This is what the word of God says “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:4-5). The scripture is clear on where you have to fight one of the greatest battles of your faith – the real battle is in your mind but this is good news; you have the power to control your mind and where it takes you. Like the word says you have the ability to ‘take every thought captive’. When you take thoughts captive, you take away their ability to manoeuvre or move. You cannot stop the thoughts from coming to your mind but you have the power and ability to disable thoughts that come to steal your abundant life with faith filled words from the word of God.
We need to remember the devil is real and he’s not working to help you. The bible is clear in several scriptures about the role of Satan to steal the abundant life from us by planting thoughts, ideas, suggestions (what I call ‘t.i.s’) in our minds that are contrary to what God and His word say about us. In the parable of the wheat and the tares ( Matthew 13:24-36) Jesus disciples asked Him to explain what the parable meant. Jesus said that while the owner of the field sowed good seed in his field, the enemy also came along and sowed tares which was symbolic of bad seeds and negative thoughts in the same field. This is what Jesus said “The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels.” ( Matthew 12:39). Never lose sight of how Satan operates and that as a believer you also know how to overcome his strategies with the word of God. You do this by renewing your mind with the truths of His word. The renewing of your mind is the process of breaking the negative connections in your mind. This is a continuous process best described as: “the replacement of our old values with the attitudes, beliefs and concepts as revealed in His word”.
This is not a one-time event because old values that have governed your entire life sometimes don’t go away easily. You have to continually fill your mind with truth and also be aware of when your mind is drifting off to negative thoughts.
Do not be ignorant of how the enemy operates and continue to fill your mind with the word because you know Satan’s game plan to plant negatives in your mind and ultimately rob you of your abundant overflowing joyful life.
Remember Jesus loves you and there is nothing you can do about it.
